Project Category:

Bookshelf Speakers

Project Level:

Intermediate

Project Time:

20+ Hours

Project Cost:

$100-$500

Project Description:

A 2-way ported bookshelf with a beautiful walnut veneer

Design Goals:

I wanted to work with the new Signature 150 and drag the most low end I can out of it. I also wanted to practice me wood veneering skills

Driver Selection:

Signature 150
Peerless DX25TG59-04

Enclosure Design:

This is a .62 cubic foot vented cabinet. Made out of MDF and veneered with real wood walnut veneer. I used the PVA (Titebond II) and iron method. The box is tuned to around 40 HZ.

Crossover Design:

N/A

Tips & Tricks:

When using the PVA and iron method you need to apply glue (Titebond II) to both the cabinet and the veneer. When applying glue to the veneer use the extra you are about to cut off to tape the veneer securely to a clean surface. If it slides around you can get glue on the surface you are hoping will look nice

Conclusion:

Project was a success. Looks and sound great. Veneering has become a new thing I enjoy while making speakers.
