Project Description:

Powered Bluetooth speaker system with DSP.

Design Goals:

This is for a friend of mine that owns a guitar company. I wanted to make a system that would perfectly represent the sound of his guitars but be great to listen to when not testing

Driver Selection:

This is a 2 way design with DSP. I wanted to have this as full range as possible. I chose a 6″ to go low naturally with the aid of DSP I should be able to get it even lower.
Tweeter – DC28F-8 275-070
Woofer – RS150-8 295-354

Enclosure Design:

About .5 cu. ft. ported design. I recessed the controls into the top of one cabinets, and the board inside the same cabinet. It has a padauk baffle on a Baltic birch plywood box.

Crossover Design:

I used the KABD board which has both DSP and amplification. From 82 Hz to 5 kHz I needed it to be nearly ruler straight and perfectly flat. I originally designed that for the full FR. But it didn’t sound very good. So I adjusted the bass knob work only below 82 Hz, and the treble knob to adjust above 5 kHz. It doesn’t sound perfect but it sounds much better than perfectly flat

Tips & Tricks:

I found that the most interesting layers of Baltic birch plywood are underneath the surface. So all the BB plywood has had its top layer carefully sanded off. That is what gives it that rustic/old look

Conclusion:

Other than the removable back, which I don’t like, the speaker system came out fairly nice sounding and really good looking. It has a beautiful padauk baffle and a rustic look everywhere else.
