Project Description:

Thin woven wood strips, bonded and coated with clear marine epoxy for strength, hardness, shape and flexibility.

Cold fabricated speaker frames, welded to fit cones. Made from scrap metal.
Salvaged ferrite magnets from used speakers, with custom sized voice coils needed for cones.

Design Goals:

The challenge was to design fit to Baroque Quintet speakers. (previously posted)
Tested by ear if woven wood speaker cones compare to composite or plastic cones, to have a wood finish and avoid using speaker covers.

Tips & Tricks:

Different thickness and shapes of veneer are needed to achieve various timbre.

Conclusion:

After many hours of testing and tweaking, was able to meet quality of conventional cones, worked out great for aesthetics. Have not been tested with electronic equipment yet, I am sure there are differences that can not be heard with my worn out ears.

About the Designer:

Was always blowing out speakers in home made boxes. with loud music since High School, wanted to make my own just for the fun and challenge.
