Project Description:
While it is fun to build a subwoofer box from scratch there are many commercially made subwoofer enclosures with failed amps and or drivers. In my case I found an empty subwoofer box with a piano black paint job.
Design Goals:
The goal of this project was a subwoofer to go with my top hats in fir project.
Driver Selection:
The top hats only have a 4″ driver so the sub needed to extend up into upper bass of 100hz+. I have also tested many 12″ subwoofers in the past in the same room and the Morel TiCW 1258ft was one of my favorites subjectively.
Enclosure Design:
The subwoofer internal volume is 42 liters sealed and this worked out well for the Morel. I’ve learned that subwoofers work the best in the area slightly below to slightly above the impedance peak. I’ve previously used the Morel in 85 liters and for the application of crossing it over high at 100hz to small drivers I prefer the Morel in 42 liters.
Crossover Design:
N/A
Tips & Tricks:
The morel 12″ automotive subwoofer grille fits perfectly on the Morel TiCW 1258ft and this is what I used.
Conclusion:
The Morel TiCW 1258 is an expensive but great sounding subwoofer. It has great midbass impact and can reproduce clean quick notes on the lower strings of the bass guitar.
