Best Dual 8 EVER!

Project Time:
8-20 Hours
Project Cost:
$500-$1,000
Project Description:
After building a Dual 12″ with 2 passive radiators, similar to the Legacy Audio Foundation subwoofer or the REL 212SE Sub, I wanted to see how a dual 8 would turn out. Using 2 Dayton Audio RSS210HO-4 8″ drivers wired in series for an 8 ohm load, and one Earthquake passive on bottom, and one Sunfire Jr. Passive on back, and I had planned on using the SPA500DSP plate amp, but I had a new Klipsch R-115sw plate amp sitting around that’s fairly similar in specs. The floor space this thing takes up is only 10.5″ wide and 12″ deep, and I can honestly say it puts out more quality bass than any single 12 I own, and I have many 12″ subs.
Design Goals:
My goal was to create a mini version of the Legacy Foundation subwoofer or REL 212SE sub
Driver Selection:
2 Dayton Audio RSS210HO-4 8″ wired in series for an 8 ohm load, & 2 Passive Radiators an Earthquake, & Sunfire Jr.
Enclosure Design:
Sealed sub with passive radiators
Crossover Design:
N/A
Tips & Tricks:
KISS, keep it simple subwoofer…lol.
Conclusion:
To say the bass was shocking is an understatement. I’ve now built 3 of these and been selling them for very cheap at $1000 each. However, I should be charging about $1,500 but I bought the drivers on sale, and got great deals on the rest of the parts, so I passed the savings onto everyone else. At regular price, you’ll have at least $750+ in materials if you use the SPL500DSP plate amp.
