Conclusion:
Does what I wanted to plus more.
I built a box with these same exact speakers ($29 open box special) and a Lepai 2020 amp with a 5A brick from a monitor. It was my first audio project, and I am really happy with the results – maybe not audiophile quality, but big, full sound. I found that the EQ on the Lepai is noisy and muddy, so I leave it switched out and use an EQ app on my phone or tablet. I used 1 1/2″ ABS pipe for ports, tuned to around 40-50HZ. I’m a pro carpenter, so my box is made of nice 1/2″ birch plywood and stained, but same basic concept.
I choose “HERCULINER” Bed Liner Paint for the outside to hold up to the abuse I’d be putting it through. I’m a Framer so I needed something that was durable and could take a beating and still look good. I need music to work and wanted to go with my own set up instead of buying name brand like Milwaukee or Snap On. I also spent a little time making some templates out of name brand logo’s of kick’s I wear to add my own spin to things. Thought it turned out pretty damn good as others gave me positive feedback on my work.
