My First Build

Designer:

Thomas B.

Project Category:

Tower Speakers

Project Level:

Beginner

Project Time:

20+ Hours

Project Cost:

$100 – $500

Project Description:

Set out to learn building a small bookshelf but it turned into a tower fast. Had few tools table saw, curricular saw, belt sander, screw gun, chalk gun. Did all the work from my wheelchair or crawling on the deck. Biggest challenge was managing the plywood on the table saw.

Design Goals:

Build a tower with some shape to it not just a box

Driver Selection:

Wanted a three way speaker but did not want to spend a ton.

-Goldwood GW-8028 8″ Butyl Surround Woofer 8 Ohm Part # 290-355

Enclosure Design:

Used cardboard, a ruler and my head.

Enclosure Assembly:

3/4 plywood Burch Furniture grade.

Crossover Design:

Just started learning how to do crossovers now and my new build but for this I used Dayton Audio XO3W-700/5.6K 3-Way Speaker Crossover 700/5,600 Hz Part # 260-156. I can change this out when I learn more, I put the crossover in its own chamber that is easy to get to, you will see in the pictres.

About the Designer:

Lost my right leg, pelvis, the whole works 24 years ago but I improvise everything and do what is necessary to get something done so yes I am proud of this build. It is nowhere near others I have seen on here, there are some talented people on here. Hope I can get there.
