Project Description:
Floor Towers.

Design Goals:
Floor tower speakers that are relatively low cost to build.

Driver Selection:
(4) DynaLab V22-DR-0003 8″ Paper Cone Woofers 4 Ohm Part # 299-4004. (2) GRS 1TD1-8 1″ Dome Tweeters 8 Ohm Part # 292-462.

Enclosure Design:
2 way bass reflex twin 8 inch bass drivers with tweeter.

Enclosure Assembly:
11/16 plywood to be light enough to mount on the garage wall.

Crossover Design:
Off the shelf Linkwitz-Riley type 2 way 3K Hz crossovers.

Tips & Tricks:
I used colorplace exterior latex rollered on and sprayed the front baffle with Rustoleum “stone creations” paint. I used poly-fill in the cabinets as well. I used weather stripping on the back side of the Dynalab woofers seeing they had no gasket material.

Conclusion:
Sweet sounding units for around $200 total.

      Jeff I got the crossovers a couple years back from Amazon and just held onto them. They are audiopipe brand crossovers. At the time they were going for around $30 for the pair. However in the past couple years I started designing and building my own crossovers with parts from Parts Express and I can build a pair with their parts about as inexpensively as the pair I bought a couple years ago. The caveat to all of this is with not having frd and zma data for drivers it’s just a theoretical build i.e. in theory and all things being equal you have a nice set of speakers once finished. But if you’re looking to build a really nice set approaching what I call audiophile quality one would need to buy drivers that had frd and zma data supplied in order to design a set of crossovers tuned for those drivers. Bottom line inexpensive builds like these speakers do a fine job of music reproduction. I hope this helps. Thanks……..
