Project Description:

Double horn enclosures for Left, Right, Center channel. MDF and particleboard, skimmed over outer shell with wood filler to get glass smooth finish, same time sound deadening coating. Matching removable cloth grills.

Design Goals:

Create that dynamic theater sound stage, by taking advantage of the horn design and a one twist with hefty durable outer finish, with matching removable grills.

Driver Selection:

Dayton Audio DSA115-8 4″ Designer Series Aluminum Cone Woofer
Dayton Audio DS135-8 5″ Designer Series Woofer Speaker

Dayton Audio DC28F-8 1-1/8″ Silk Dome Tweeter.
*4 tweeters total

Enclosure Design:

Left and Right is a double duct back loaded horn design (if remember correctly!)

Crossover Design:

Left and right is a Dayton 2-way passive type. Center has (2) 2-way Dayton passive type, wired series at terminals.

Tips & Tricks:

Keeping things fun and open minded! Long as results sound great to you, then it’s perfect. Sound makes the world go round! (T-Shirt slogan!)

Conclusion:

Be easier to look at pics for correct crossover used. Next build will be the back surround towers. They will consist of a triple duct horn back loaded (horn opening on back panel) should be able to fit 6” Dayton Designer’s with top mounted tweeters with same outer finish and matching grill. Everyone that’s seen and heard em has asked where I bought em from, so I’m really satisfied on accidentally adding onto enclosure causing me to apply outer shell to hide seam for added crossover compartment, which each has a removable back panel with glass window to see crossover.
The website for all those cool horn diy plans for free is SPC.JPN.org if anyone is interested, all designs are modeled on computer with a ton of literature on subject. Many designs to choose from. I’ve also built a pair of fostex FE167E bass reflex enclosure, stands supports enclosure as well as the duct (port) out of solid oak wood, veneered all edges, with 6.5” Dayton designer series 8ohm, 1 1/2” tweeter. Inner walls insulated with 1/4” foam, removable glass top for the 2-way Dayton crossover compartment, held in place with magnets. Phenomenal sound from those guy’s! Will post towers as soon as they get built!

About the Designer:

Work as an Operator for steam & combustion turbine power generation to the grid. (Natural gas only folks) 60hz is 60hz right? Lol home audio is relatively new to me as I’ve always been into car audio many years. I love a good sounding, unique designed system car or home.
