Designer:

Project Category:
Bookshelf Speakers

Project Level:
Intermediate

Project Time:

8-20 Hours

Project Cost:

$100-$500

Project Description:

Wanted to build a speaker with a ribbon tweeter, this tweeter was a buyout and the recommended crossover was 6000hz+, but nothing to my ear would say it’s a bad performer at 4800hz.

Design Goals:

Build a low resonance cabinet with a ribbon tweeter, clear midrange and 40-50hz low end

Driver Selection:

N/A

Enclosure Design:

Outside dimensions, 18″ H× 10″ W× 12 1/2″ D.

Crossover Design:

Cheesy China made 3-way
800hz, 4800hz

Tips & Tricks:

I made the mistake of not enclosing the midrange driver, just FYI, it will help to keep the midrange cone from moving and that helps with midrange distortion

Conclusion:

I think they turned out nice maybe one day I’ll build a better crossover or install a Dayton audio 3way in them

About the Designer:
Love to build different speakers, using different crossovers and drivers, next project will be a tower speaker with compression drivers
